Processed Food

Food processing sector is one of the largest sectors in India in terms of production, growth, consumption, and export. The turnover of the total food market is approximately Rs.250,000 crores (US$ 69.4 billion) out of which value-added food products comprise Rs.80,000 crores (US$ 22.2 billion) India's food processing sector covers fruit and vegetables; spices; meat and poultry; milk and milk products, alcoholic beverages, fisheries, plantation, grain processing and other consumer product groups like confectionery, chocolates and cocoa products, soya-based products, mineral water, high protein foods etc. Since liberalization in Aug'91 proposals for projects of have been proposed in various segments of the food and agro-processing industry. Besides this, Govt. has also approved proposals for joint ventures; foreign collaboration, industrial licenses and 100%export oriented units envisaging an investment. Out of this, foreign investment is over Rs.10,000 crores.

McDonald’s goes hi-tech to attract young customers




With an aim of wooing young customers in India, fast food chain McDonald’s is getting into the digital domain by launching applications for mobile phones and computers which will enable visitors at its outlets witness illusion of menu on offer.


“We are launching this revolutionary concept of ‘augmented reality’ at all [of] our 110 McDonald’s outlets in North and East India,” McDonald’s India (North and East) GM Marketing Rajdeep Chatterjee said.

Food processing – Key challenges and deliverables for success

Non-alcoholic beverage market to reach Rs 11k crore by 2015



The non-alcoholic beverage market in India is likely to reach Rs 11,000 crore mark by 2015, industry body ASSOCHAM said.




Growing at a CAGR of about 20 per cent the non-alcoholic beverages sector is currently pegged at Rs 6,000 crore, according to a study on ‘Opportunities in Indian Non-Alcoholic Beverage Market’ by The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM).
